Update on Mosquito Spraying in Lakewood – Oct 27, 2020

by on Oct.27, 2020, under Association News

From Asst. City Manager Kevin Troller about Mosquito spraying:

“I am providing this as an update since National Night Out; and hope you can share this info with your neighbors and the HOA. The attached maps” (link below) “show each night that we’ve sprayed since Oct. 7th . We still receive complaints from the Lakewood subdivision, still stating that our spray trucks are not coming down all the streets – which we are. We continue checking as all of our trucks are chipped; our trucks are spraying up and down the complete lengths of all streets. The months of September and October are typically bad for the neighborhoods that are closest to the bay. These months have excessively high tides that bring water into the coastal areas where the Aedes taeniorhynchus mosquito flourish. To top that, the two tropical storms that have been just to the East of us has made even more impact on our tides than normal. In many cases, these areas where these particular mosquitoes breed, in high tide pools, we rely on adulticiding (spraying) to reduce the populations which takes several treatments to reduce the populations effectively. Our mosquito division has sprayed this area 8 times in the past 20 days since NNO. Dates of spray missions are: Oct 7, 11, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 26. I hope this information is helpful.”
